It is widely known about Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik, or 'The Brisker Rav' had such great genius that it outshined his righteousness. He was known for his strong opinions -- one of them was regarding the laws of life-threatening situations. Accordingly, he dealt with much leniency when exempting people on fast days.
